Meeting with the Event Management Association

## ACPOSL Holds Constructive Dialogue with the Event Management Association of Sri Lanka The **Association of Creators and Publishers of Sri Lanka (ACPOSL)** recently held a constructive meeting with representatives of the **Event Management Association of Sri Lanka (EMA)**, together with representatives from the event and entertainment industry, to discuss matters relating to music usage, copyright, and public performance licensing in Sri Lanka. The discussion provided an important opportunity for both sides to openly exchange views on the practical implementation of music licensing at weddings, corporate functions, private events, and other events held across the country. Representatives of the event industry shared their practical concerns and suggestions, including the process of obtaining licences, responsibility for licence payments, music usage reporting, song lists and recordings, possible blanket licensing arrangements for bands and DJs, and the development of a more convenient online licensing system. ACPOSL welcomed these suggestions and emphasised that an effective copyright licensing framework should both **protect the legal rights of songwriters, composers and publishers** and be **practical and workable for event organisers, venues, performers, DJs and other industry stakeholders**. The meeting was conducted in a positive and constructive spirit, with a shared understanding that creators and the wider event and entertainment industries depend on one another. Respect for creators’ rights, together with practical industry solutions, is essential for building a sustainable music ecosystem in Sri Lanka. ACPOSL will continue its dialogue with EMA and other industry stakeholders and will carefully consider the proposals made as the licensing system continues to develop. **ACPOSL remains committed to working collaboratively with all sectors of the music and event industries while ensuring that creators receive the recognition and remuneration they are legally entitled to for the use of their works.**

“ACPOSL believes that a strong and sustainable music industry can only be built through constructive dialogue and mutual understanding. Our meeting with the Event Management Association provided an important opportunity to listen to the practical concerns of the event industry while also highlighting the need to respect and protect the rights of songwriters, composers and publishers. We are committed to working together to develop a licensing framework that is fair, practical and beneficial to the entire music and event ecosystem in Sri Lanka"
