ACPOSL Proposes Industry Reforms to Cultural Minister

The ACPOSL Board of Directors had a special discussion with the Minister of Cultural Affairs, Dr. Hiniduma Sunil Senevi on 27 January, 2025, to advocate for critical reforms in the music industry.

During the meeting, ACPOSL highlighted the critical reforms required to ensure robust copyright and Intellectual Property (IP) compliance in Sri Lanka.

The dialogue focused on several key areas:

  • Legalizing Royalty Payments: Establishing a mandatory framework for creator compensation.
  • Regulating Musical Concerts: Developing a formal system for event oversight.
  • Broadcasting Compliance: Regulating electronic channels that violate intellectual property rights.
  • Digital Rights Reform: Modernizing laws to protect creators in the digital landscape.

This government engagement marks another successful milestone in ACPOSL’s strategic roadmap to formalize the industry.

We are pleased to announce that follow-up actions and further discussions are already underway.
